Introducing a “New” Kind of Yellowstone Tour – Cheap & Cheesy
“Cheap & Cheesy Yellowstone Tours” Means Bring Your Own Cheese
GARDINER, Montana, February 13, 2025 – Dan Buell, a Gardiner resident, saw the need for an affordable touring company that “caters” to visitors with a negligible budget, as well as those with children and/or larger groups, those physically and/or mentally challenged, those with little park experience and minimal time – or just those with eyes glazed over by Yellowstone’s 2.2 million acres. Cheap & Cheesy Yellowstone Tours became a reality in 2025 and offers full-day, dawn to dusk tours at an affordable price – and from a “new” perspective.
In keeping with President Roosevelt’s premise that our National Parks are “for the enrichment of the lives of all of us,” Dan dubbed Cheap & Cheesy Yellowstone Tours as the guide service for those unable to afford the luxury tour prices of $650 - $1000 or more per person. Cheap & Cheesy Tours costs just $450 per group of up to thirteen driving their own vehicle(s), which with a full tour translates to about $35 per person.
Tours can originate from any park entrance and come with a no-frills but exciting wildlife, geyser, hiking, or non-instructional photographic focus lasting the entire day from dawn to dusk, at the client’s discretion of course, when most luxury tours are limited to six hours. Clients enjoy a no-stress travel day throughout the park while listening to adventurous wildlife stories and other park tidbits on the walkie-talkie, knowing that their guide is knowledgeable of the latest wildlife sightings, the best thermal features, and beautiful scenic vistas. Dan also loves sharing additional park knowledge that may enrich the remainder of his client’s vacation.
He and his volunteer, Cindy, especially enjoy catering to parents, children, elderly, disabled, and those requiring special accommodations including the use of wildlife viewing monitors if one struggles with binoculars or scopes.
Just one more unique characteristic about Cheap & Cheesy is that Dan guides from a Creation perspective – no preaching, just sharing the park from a young earth (6000 years) and Intelligent Design perspective.
So, how can Dan guide at this price? Already having a fixed income is huge (he’s “retired”) with no family support needed. His overhead is low by driving a 25-year-old Dodge Grand Caravan with peeling paint (thus the Cheesy), keeping commercial insurance cost low by not carrying passengers but communicating through walkie-talkies, using a very simple website, providing nice but less expensive scopes and binoculars, and “allowing” people to feed themselves. At $450 per tour he’s nearly volunteering his time, but his motto is, “Making your day makes my day.”
